Great post Jamie, but who should he partner? Morris and McCant have started in the middle and Wright played there pre-season. Sparrow got slotted into the middle as one of adkins' inspired substitutions on Saturday and last season Hayes dropped back to play the middle, so what should be the combination?

Promotion is obviously the goal for this season, but last time we did it without preparing a squad that could achieve in the championship. Sparrow struggled last season, yet the season before he did well in league one (when he was fit/not suspended). For me he makes a useful member of the squad but I'd rather look for someone who is going to make the step up if we win promotion, so not my first choice to partner Togwell.

McCann was one of two BIG signings last year. The Jury is still out, but I have yet to be convinced by his performances. Has played with Togwell before so could be Adkins first choice. Deserves a chance...

Morris. When he first joined the club we were told he was young, lay off and give him chance. This might still apply but he needs to step up soon. He was guilty of wasting possession on Saturday in the dying stages of the game but how often have we seen the iron waste possession without getting a shot in, at least he fired a few balls at goal. He has potential and could have the greatest influence in the middle rather than on the wings. My first choice in the middle if I'm being optimistic, if he can't rise to the challenge then will hopefully provide hurst competition on the wing!

Hayes. Stay up front. Give him and Hooper a chance together.

Wright. Not seen enough of him. Young and has come from a good set up. Hopefully will be a good squad player (more strength in depth please). Should be aiming to provide Togwell with competition, not sure about him being cover for Clifford though...

So I 'd prefer to go Togwell and Morris for a few games and see how it works

For me it has to be Togwell - Morris for now although given Morris was ill in midweek I can see him starting with McCann alongside the newboy.

I agree 157% about McCann he hasn't shown enough for me since he signed, doesn't seem 'up for it'. I always rated him when I'd seen him play for Cheltenham and Barnsley so was delighted when we signed him but he hasn't lived up to my expectations at all. This season will make or break him imo.

Throughout the midfield we have bags of ability but we're not mobile enough for me. Morris is a better central midfielder than he is a winger. What are your opinions on Jonathon Forte IronArena? Another one for me who has the ability but we rarely see it, what's his best position? Cause for me he never looks too bright on the left, right or up top for any period of time.

UP THE IRON AND GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

whats Forte's best position, now theres a question, on balance it would seem to be on the bench! He looks like he has some talent, but he's like watching Jimmy Anderson bowl for England, no consistency. On his day he's a delight to watch, there was a game at Glanford Park where he was playing on the right and stretched his leg out to pluck the ball out of the air like he was in the matrix. Cleveland's days looked numbered because Forte can get a shot on target. But that was one game and he's never looked as impressive on the right since. Coming on against the Blades as a lone striker after we had been reduced to 10men I thought he was outstanding, showing pace and strength, but where has that player gone?

Adkins calls him one of his forwards but I'm not sure, but then I've also only noticed one good performance on the wing! I would like to see him play like that more often and whilst I dont want Adkins rotating the team all the time I wonder whether Forte is better suited to the bigger pitches away from home???

Forte has potential but he very rarely shows it. His best game was at Sheffield United. He seemed to love it up top on his own. His best position at the moment is the bench I agree. I would have him as a striker rather than a midfielder, because I think he plays better in attack. If he played to how he can every week then we would have a fantastic player. At the moment in Forte we have a good player but he's so inconsistent it's frustrating.

He banged a good hat trick for the reserves on Tuesday but could have had more. If he plays to how he can then he would be in my first team every week.

I disagree about the comment regarding Mccann. I think he has come on since playing with Togwell in the centre of midfield.

Jamie I agree that McCann has come on since playing with Dogwell - though the first game I watched with the two together I'm not sure what McCann contributed he went missing - but the discussion Son I'm 30 and I were having was prior to him playing with Dogwell and I stick by the comments that he had been unconvincing

I agree IronArena, McCann has improved no end since Togwell has been brought in alongside him. I STILL think we haven't seen the best of him though.

I never said he wasn't getting there Jamie, just that there is more to come I'm sure.

If I had chosen a career in football as oppose to property development I'm sure I would be in the NI squad. They are poor.

But his progress seems to have stalled again. The last couple of games McCann seems to have become McCant and gone missing again. Yes great free kick yesterday but that does not make 90 minutes, most of the time he has been chasing shadows. He's been good when he actually gets the ball (to feet) but thats not happening. The guys on the bench will start wondering when are they going to get a chance when he puts in performances like that and still gets the start. Top of the league, but if we had 11 men playing it might be by more than a point.

Going back to the question of Jon Forte, he had a great opportunity to stake a claim for a place in the side yesterday and he bottled it. Where was the pace and energy? Next time Hooper or Hayes is out May must get a proper run out (rather than 2 minutes!)

I agree about McCann, he often seems like he is on the edge of things when he needs to be stuck in there and making it happen. In a centre midfield role have to take charge and boss the game and I dont think McCann is doing that at the moment.

I'd like to see Sparrow in centre midfield again at least he chases and runs everywhere. Thomo when fit or hurst/forte in the side on that right wing and then we'll see what happens.

I thought Jono Forte played well yesterday, looked lively and linked up play very well. Not sure i have seen Hooper hold the ball up like Forte was doing. You could tell he wasnt a regular though as the understanding with the rest of the team wasnt always spot on.

Agree with Nige re the defending - they have to sort that out soon or its going to really hurt us. We just seem to get sucked into playing a fast open game when we are in front - when we should be slowing it down keeping the ball and controlling the game. Hope the lads learn soon!

I agree. Holding onto the ball seems to be a big problem for the lads in the last few games. Our dominance of games has really taken a hit and we more often than not look like the underdogs. Some of the players may be becoming just a little too complacent with their place in the starting line up. They are all 'on the edge ' far too often in the last few games. Adkins has spoken about the great challenge for places, well lets see it now.
Sparrow and Woolford are my top players at the moment, they seem to have the desire which is missing from the rest of the squad. The McCann Togwell and Hayes Hooper partnerships seem to have run aground lately. The belief seems to have gone out of their game.
Fittingly for bonfire night, some of them need the proverbial 'Rocket Up Their Arses!'

I think we've developed the 'direct pass' a bit too much lately. Last night Mirfin, Izzy and Byrne were always hitting long to Hayes, he wasnt winning much so it was coming back at us again and again. We couldnt get the full backs forward or build any attacking play up field.

Defence also seemed a little deep, creating a big space in midfield. In turn that gives McCann and Togs more ground to have to cover and more often that not last night it landed to a Dale player or into space. I think that is making it seem like midfield isnt playing well.

My sources tell me the players got a 'Laws style' rocket after the match on Saturday about their inability to defend so at least was good to keep clean sheet last night even if it was a poorer attacking display - Wooly didnt even look good last night! Still a win is a win.

I have got to agree with this. The last couple of games we have treat the ball like a game of hot potato pass it on. We need to play the ball on the floor more as we are one of the best teams in this league when we do that.

I also reckon some players are starting to think that they will be in the team every game, regardless of how they play and who it's against.

I have got to agree that we were poor as an attacking force last night. However as you say, a win is a win and I am happy that we are through to the business end of the JPT Trophy.

The defence was much improved and apart from the double save near the end Murphy was a virtual spectator.
