Former British under 15 Champion. Already established as a top performer at Conference League level and more recently scoring big points in the Premier League. Has the talent and potential to become a top rider in the Elite League and earn international honours. In football money, whats he worth? Tai Woffinden (16) - Speedway Rider, British/Aussie???, The top rider in the Conference League, Averaging 9+ in the Premier League, Has already at 16, earned his place in the British final and World Under 21 semi's. Track record holder at Scunthorpe and Plymouth. Possibly the most sought after rider in the world of speedway. Has the talent and potential to become a future world champion. Value ? Joe Haines (15) - British under 15 Champion with huge potential. Value ? Andrew Tully (19?) - Currently flying at both Conference and Premier League. Improving week on week. Value ? Richie Dennis, Byron Bekker, Benji Compton, Scott Richardson - All young riders, all showing great promise, will all eventually become established in the the Premier League or even higher. Value ? In football money, collectively maybe worth £10m ? In speedway money, £30,000 maybe ? Not much is it for risking life and limb every time they go out on the track. |

When you think Jason Crump was sold by Belle Vue to Poole for £30,000 and to follow the football analogy he is equivalent to Ronaldo/Henry so would be worth £25 million. Unless you make it to the very top in speedway there is little money to be made (certainly not when you way up the risks). That is why the riders in the Elite League also ride in Swedish and Polish leagues to earn a good living out of the sport. Most Premier/Conference riders will have a 'normal' job and speedway just supplements their income. Can you image if you told footballers they had to play in 3 different leagues each week! Most riders certainly don't do it for the money but for the love of the sport (and one of the reasons why I find it easier to associate with these guys rather than overpaid footballers). |

That was the 3rd time Jason got transferred for £30K+. Peterborough paid £35k for his services in 1996 then Kings Lynn paid £36K for him in 2001. I think that still stands as the record british transfer fee, unsure. You see footballers falling over a blade of grass, rolling around faking injury, carried off only to miraculously return to the pitch two minutes later. The more money they earn the worse they seem to get. Meanwhile, Ive seen speedway riders smash into solid wooden fences head on at 50mph, pick themselves up, brush themselves down and within two minutes are lining up for a rerun. Like you say, they do it for the love of the sport and not for money. True sportsmen. |

He's already holding his own against experienced riders and is only going to get better. It's like the whole Sharp story with United, I think we'll struggle to hang on to him for long. Out of all the clubs in the Conference our team would be worth the most... we've got the best young riders in the country. |
